50 Shades of Grey
has truly become a worldwide phenomenon. However, the popular series has
brought to the forefront the ongoing epidemic of relationship abuse. No truer
is this then when it comes to Ana and Christian’s relationship – or that of Ana’s
disturbing eating habits. According to many fans and author E.L. James, these
claims are simply not true. In fact, the author continues to deny these claims
even though most critics seem to be right in their assessments.
In fact, a new study recently showed that 50 Shades of Grey readers will most
likely be involved in an abusive relationship. Others are more likely to
develop eating disorders – as opposed to those that never read these infamous
books. This tells you something about the power of suggestion right?
The study
– which was showcased in The Journal of
Women’s Health – was based on interaction with over 650 women (between the
ages of 18 and 24). Research showed that women who had read the book were 25
percent more likely to be involved in abusive relationships. In addition, 34
percent were more likely to have partners with stalking tendencies.
The research also showed that 75 percent of readers were
likely to have used diet aids – or have fasted for over 24 hours in the past.
So in a nutshell, the critics are right on point about their criticism of the
book and its visible or subliminal messages. In fact, study author Amy Bonomi
recently said if women experience adverse health behaviors, such as disordered
eating – this will only be exacerbated by reading the book. As a result, the
conclusion is that 50 Shades of Grey
definitely influences the onset of several behaviors.
